Introduction
The APSU Summer Guitar Workshop is a five-day course for classical and acoustic fingerstyle guitarists of all levels. Participants work daily with distinguished artist-faculty in the style of their choice (classical or acoustic fingerstyle). Activities are streamed according to playing style and playing level, and include daily technique sessions, masterclasses, ensemble (group) rehearsals, special lecture sessions, and evening concert performances. All participants have the opportunity to perform in the end-of-workshop ensemble concert (please refer to the separate Workshop Schedule for more details).

Performance Competition

The workshop hosts a performance competition with three divisions:
  • Collegiate/Post-Collegiate Classical Guitar

  • Pre-Collegiate Classical Guitar

  • Pre-Collegiate Fingerstyle Guitar

Workshop participants who wish to compete are subject to an additional fee (collegiate $75, pre-collegiate $50). Collegiate Competition participants who do not wish to participate in the workshop are subject to a $175 competition entry fee (and may audit, though not participate in, workshop events). Please refer to the separate Competition Information page for details regarding entry requirements, dates and prizes.

Residential Workshop Fee
The Residential Workshop Fee covers all workshop events with the exception of competition entry (see above), housing for six nights and all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner). This covers arrival on Sunday June 27 through departure on the morning of Saturday July 3. The complete fee for shared (double) occupancy is $550 for the week; the complete fee for single occupancy is $580. Shared occupancy is gender-specific. Please note that participants under the age of 18 must reside on campus unless they have an adult relative in the area.

Non-Residential Workshop Fee
The Non-Residential Workshop Fee (for participants who will reside off-campus) is $390. This fee covers all workshop events (with the exception of competition entry) and daily “all you can eat” lunch.

Participants Under 18 Years of Age
As mentioned above, participants under the age of 18 must reside on campus unless they reside with an adult relative in the area. Residence halls are under adult supervision.

Non-Refundable Deposit A non-refundable deposit of $125 (which will be credited toward the tuition fee) is required to reserve a place in the workshop. This should be submitted with the application form. If applying after June 1, please pay the entire Workshop Fee (and Competition Entry Fee, if applicable).

Payment of Fees

Full payment of fees (less the $125 deposit) is due June 1. An additional $25 Workshop Late Registration fee will apply after this date. Non-workshop-participant Collegiate Competition entrants who pay after June 1 will also pay an additional $25 Late Registration Fee.
